Finished reading: Valkyrie by Jóhanna Katrín Friðriksdóttir 📚 Jóhanna’s book provides invaluable information on Norse history and sagas, so much so that she was one of the historical consultants for The Northman.

Hey, @toddgrotenhuis, I’m running a grimdark game next Sunday. One of the players used Midjourney to develop artwork for his character’s appearance.

I found a tag in OmniFocus for my cat, Loki, who died a few years ago. The tag serves no purpose except to remind me of the loss of my little friend.

Once a dead person becomes a nachzehrer, it is believed that it would begin eating its own burial shroud. Once this item is completely consumed, it would then eat its own flesh. 💬 Gnarly.

This morning I found an unexpected item in my OmniFocus Inbox. It was a notification for a new Patreon supporter for a podcast I work on. I had forgotten that a week ago, I had set up an email rule to send those Patreon notifications to my OmniFocus account because it’s crucial to update our website with new executive producers. Very handy. I literally set it and forgot it.

Widget Screen: Snapshot of My Day

A bit of nerdery I want to share. I’ve set up the widget screen on my iPhone to give me a snapshot of my day first thing in the morning.

My Fantastical widget tells me what’s on my docket for the day and does double time by providing the temperatures.

My OmniFocus widget gives me an idea of my workload for the week.

My Apple Maps widget shows the traffic in my neighborhood.

My battery widget tells me the current charge of all my devices.

My deliveries widget tracks all the packages I’m expecting.

My Feedly widget shows news items.

There are useful widgets below, but those are the ones that priced me with the info I need to start my day.

It’s the season where I lament I no longer have time to read H.P. Lovecraft short stories every day for October as I did in my 20s. But I will read one piece of fiction from him: The Rats in the Walls. Aside from some of his usual displays of racism (sigh), it’s a chilling yarn.

21st-century reading habits: I’m currently reading two books on my Kindle; two books on my iPhone using the iBooks, one of which is an ePub I helped Kickstart; one print book, which I’m only reading because I can’t get it as an ebook; and listening to an audiobook.

Am I missing something, or is the dictation function for Drafts on the Apple Watch no longer available? ⌚️

I’m pleased with myself for processing the highlights from the books I’m reading into Obsidian. I’ve got a neat little workflow that scans highlights from print books and adds them to Obsidian using Drafts and Text Case. The trick is to make notes now that they’ve been processed.

I associate Oktoberfest with a cracked tooth. Years ago, when I lived in Boston, I went to an Oktoberfest by the Channel. I bit into a brat, and hit a piece of gristle, and I cracked a tooth. By the way, I just ordered a bratwurst. I will eat it with care.
