Finished reading: Cosmic Pessimism by Eugene Thacker 📚 “Every person has a point beyond which life is no longer worth living. In this way we are all covert pessimists.”
Finished reading: Blindsight by Peter Watts 📚 My friend recommended this book during session zero for our upcoming Mothership game. A great read that fueled my imagination and sparked ideas for the game.

Mothership and Cosmic Horror
Last month we wrapped up our Xas Irkalla survival horror RPG. We had such a great time that we decided to run Mothership, a sci-fi survival horror RPG. Think Aliens or Event Horizon.
Tomorrow will be our session zero, where we’ll determine the story we want to tell, roll up characters, world build, and set expectations. As GM, my job is to facilitate that story into gameplay. While I’m happy to follow their lead, I would love to explore themes of cosmic horror. The closest role-playing game has to cosmic horror is the Cthulhu franchise, which seems more mystery-solving than anything else. Most people have an inkling about the Cthulhu Mythos, so the antagonists' motivations are known.
The challenge would be how to run a cosmic horror RPG where not only is the universe indifferent to humans, but motivations are alien and incomprehensible.

Spotted in the wild: a man pushing a baby stroller signing along to a Red Hot Chili Peppers song unironically.
Every morning I listen to two albums. Today I listened to Go Too by Stomu Yamash’ta and Inner Spirit by Bill Evans.🎵

I’m anticipating the release of Tapbots Ivory app for Mastodon. There are already a number of great apps for Mastodon, but as longtime user of Tweetbot, I know Ivory is going to be spectacular.

Finished reading: Making Comics by Scott McCloud 📚 Great read, even if you have zero interest in comic books. I love comics, so I found this book invaluable.
In my perfect world, Lucy Lawless would play the role of Neuromancer’s Molly Millions. But Lawless has aged out of playing that role. Gina Carano, on the other hand…
