I had forgotten how warm Star Trek: The Motion Picture is. Earthtones, lambert amber lighting, lustrous golds. Paramount should do a series of Captain Decker’s adventures just so we can inhabit the color palette of this era of Trek.
In Star Trek: The Motion Picture Spock is about to achieve Kolinahr, but Spock is not ready to give up his “animal passions.” First, I adore how the Vulcan priestess pronounces Spock: “Spauchhh.” Secondly, I love that I misspelled “Kolinahr” while Googling it, but Google knew what I meant.
Watching Star Trek: The Motion Picture for the first time in I didn’t know how many years. Surprisingly, I think I’ve only seen it twice. Maybe unsurprisingly, given the pacing and effects. But I’m fond of the movie. My dad took me to see it when it was released, which was fun. And the reveal of the Klingon’s new appearance was exciting.
Every morning I listen to two albums. Today I listened to Enys Men (Original Score) by Mark Jenkin and Koala and Painless by Nilüfer Yanya.🎵
Started the Soundwave podcast as a sonic balm during the pandemic - a blend of ambient, classical, experimental, and instrumental sounds. Now it’s grown into a veritable sonic ecosystem. Seeking guest deejays who share our passion for sonic exploration.
Ah, another bold fashion choice. The woman in front of me is garbed in what appears to be the skinned hide of Cookie Monster.
The gentleman who just walked past me displayed a sartorial style that can best be described as a synthesis of Kid Rock and Riff Raff. Feel free to use that as a prompt the next time you use Midjourney.
Every morning I listen to two albums. Today I listened to Labyrinthitis by Destroyer and Koala and other metamorphoses by Trespassers W.🎵
The last retrospective mix will focus on the From Here to Tranquility compilation series. It will be a beast. Where the Ambient Dub and Excursions in Ambience compilation series petered out after a few albums, the Tranquility series released 12 albums!
Today is the 150th episode of Soundwave, a podcast that focuses on ambient/classical/experimental/instrumental music. The show was my way of dealing with the stress and isolation of the pandemic. Here we are three years later. I’m celebrating with a retrospective mix of the Excursions in Ambience compilation series. http://josephaleo.com/blog/soundwave-150-excursions-in-ambience-retrospective/
Finished reading: The Spectacle of the Void by David Peak 📚 A few months back, a few of my friends and I hashed over what themes, ideas, and tropes we wanted to explore in our Mothership game, one of which was cosmic horror. During this time, I’ve been reading, thinking, and meditating on cosmic horror, which led to this slim book. I can’t help but want to apply Peak’s horror reality to our game as a way to explore the world-without-us narratively.
“To exist is to collapse the internal into the external, to come face to face with horror.”
Every morning I listen to two albums. Today I listened to Raised by Hailey Whitters and Away Message by Ari Lennox.🎵
